CANADIAN CENTRE FOR DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Catia Minardi

Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion is a social organization dedicated to the promotion of diversity to inclusion. Their mission is to help those they work with be inclusive, free of prejudice and discrimination – and to generate the awareness, dialogue and action for people to recognize diversity as an asset and not an obstacle. Even though their direct services require financing, their research-based programs and workshops are available for free on their website. Their "See Different" program was instrumental in helping our school to secure the Premier Award for Accepting Schools for two consecutive years. They also offer informative webinars that provide invaluable insight into the latest thinking about diversity and inclusion in Canada.

I loved how students were able to talk about issues that they usually feel they should be quiet about. The workshops helped students really understand who they are and the influences around them. Participants would tell me they think that it should be mandatory for all students to go through the See Different program. It allowed the students to become aware of their privilege and how they have a responsibility to use it in order to advocate for those who continue to be marginalized.
